Homeopathy
Homeopathy has been established for over 200 years; it is an effective and scientific system of healing which assists the body's natural tendency to heal itself. Homeopathy recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person, and that it is the person who needs treatment not the disease. Homeopathy has long understood the connection between mental/emotional and physical symptoms.
How does Homeopathy work?
Homeopathy works by stimulating the body's own healing power. It is based on the Law of Similars "like cures like". In other words, a substance which can cause symptoms to appear in a healthy person can also cure those symptoms when they appear part of a disease. For example, If you've ever peeled an onion, you know that it can make your eyes tear and your nose run; it can even make you want to clear your throat. This is because your body is reacting to the volatile oils in the onion, which affects the mucous membranes of your nose and throat. The homeopathic remedy Allium cepa is made from fresh red onions; it has the same effect on the body as an onion. Therefore, in homeopathy this remedy is often prescribed to treat colds marked by burning nasal discharge and extremely dry coughs.
All homeopathic remedies are completely safe by virtue of a step-by-step dilution process called potentisation, which takes away the toxicity but dramatically increases the healing power of the original substance.
What to expect during the Consultation
The homeopathic consultation is extremely thorough, lasting up to an hour and a half. A detailed understanding of you as a person is discussed. For example, whether you are an introvert or extrovert, your symptoms and the way in which these symptoms affect you, mentally, emotionally and physically. Your family history is also important. Everything discussed is in strict confidence. A second session is usually 4 weeks after the first session or sooner depending on your symptoms. The second session is usually 30- 45minutes long.
How to take homeopathic Remedies.
Remedies are given in a tablet or liquid form and are made from a dilution of one of many substances, which include plant, mineral and animal extracts. Strong peppermint and coffee can affect the remedy and should be avoided.
What to expect after taking a remedy.
After taking your remedy you may notice various changes: some patients feel exceptionally well whilst others may experience a temporary worsening of their symptoms. These are signs of the remedy taking effect. How long a treatment takes depends on what sort of illness you have; a slowly developing complaint will not disappear immediately although there might be a response and some improvement quite soon. Acute complaints may get better more quickly. You need to be patient while having treatment. Homeopathy cures from the inside out. Symptoms such as skin complaints (outside) are usually the last to clear.
