I have been a therapist for 20 years and a Homeopath for 24 years. My work has its foundation in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT may focus on what is going on in the present rather than the past. However our pasts can be important because our experiences help to shape our present. But a preoccupation with what has already taken place can at times also prevent us from successfully finding our way through current challenges.
I believe that by embracing the present, understanding and accepting others and ourselves in the present, we can make considered choices and begin to make real lasting change.
We all have the capacity to change, and by learning the tools to become more aware of our thoughts, emotions and behaviour we begin to make rational sense of our habitual ways of responding to circumstances and situations. Through this awareness of ourselves, we learn different ways of thinking; feeling and behaving that are more productive and constructive.
I am very passionate that we as humans have the power to change our lives. However, I also recognise there are some circumstances we cannot change. Nevertheless, we can change our attitudes to these circumstances and feel more able to cope with the situation. In some instances, we can change the situations completely thereby being in the driving seat of our lives. Over the years, I have felt humbled and privileged to be a part of this transformation in people's lives.
Because we are all different and lead, different lives, in my experience as a therapist, there are times when it is beneficial to use a combination of techniques when needed that best suit you and the difficulties you are experiencing. I integrate CBT with mindfulness (Mindfulness Cognitive Behaviour Therapy -MBCT). I also combine CBT with hypnosis (Cognitive Hypnotherapy) when the situation demands this.
My aim in therapy is to enable you to become your own therapist, in this vein we work in a collaborative manner, by you being very involved in the process you are able to transfer the skills learnt in therapy to issues that come up after therapy has ended. Clients have informed me that this has been very empowering knowing they can successfully mange situations themselves as they arise.
I work in a time limited way; sessions range from 6-24, the number of sessions needed is discussed in the first session. This prevents drifting in the sessions and enables us to remain focused on the outcome you want to achieve.
I never fail to be excited as a therapist to be able to create a safe place for you to learn more about yourself and to begin the process of change and acceptance of who you are.

I work in private practice in South Woodford. I have worked with MIND (mental health organisation) and in Education. I see clients on a one to basis. I also run mindfulness groups and workshops, and teach mindfulness in schools to pupils and teachers. I also run short courses in Homoeopathic first aid.
